Bianchi Pista Sei Giorni – available in celest/white.

In the elephant kingdom Celeste was Babar’s wife. She was a total sugar honey darling – gave birth to three elephants in one go – three frigging elephants people! Their names were Alexander, Pom and Flora FYI. In commemorating this amazing feat of nature, Bianci chose ‘celeste’ to name their signature blue/green colour. Of course, their website gives some romantic rubbish about the first bike designed for the female form being fashioned especially for Queen Margaret in 1895 in her favourite colour… bla bla bla… but the truth is Eduardo Bianchi was just a total Babar fetishist – Aren’t we all? I for one just can’t get enough of a nice thick trunk…

Anyways, the colour and the name have come to epitomize the brand. And let’s face it, if you are going to ride a Bianchi – and you should be riding a Bianchi – then you want everyone to know it. This is why the Pista Sei Giorni, with its celeste themed detailing is what you’re needing right now. The sublime stiffness of this baby’s alloy frame is guaranteed to give you one of your own. Like a fine croissant, the frame of the Via Brera is made from butter… Bianchi’s signature Cr-Mo butted steel that is. When I contemplate this bike I don’t care that is has a FSA Gimondi 48T crankset or Reparto Corse front and rear breaks or a Shimano SS-7600 fixed & freewheel16T cassette… No, no I don’t care at all… The appeal of the Via Brera is precisely in the fact that Bianchi have done such a good job of thinking of all these things for you that you only need meditate on what really matters – her raw appetizing appeal. I want to sip her slowly on a rainy Bondi morning, I want to sup on her sexily while pondering Plato, and more than anything I want to savor the steam of envy rising from my compatriots as they watch roll on by.  Riding a bike makes me better than you – riding a Bianchi Via Brera makes me better than the Beatles.

Bianchi Via Condotti – available in Celeste

One day I will meet a man who will take me to Via condotti – the illustrious Roman street has faithfully carried soldiers and peasants, priests and poets, philosophers and German backpackers across the Tiber and to the Spanish steps for centuries.  He and I will stop at Café Greco – we will call on Gucci, Fendi and Prada. He will have a slightly off-center nose, large hands, foreign motivations and a look on his face which, with relentless appeal, forever disguises the one that I really like. But until then, I will indulge my Europhilia by relying on a Bianchi Condotti to carry me across the otherwise unsurpassable.  With classic track-bike setup, the Condotti sports drop handlebar and all the traps and trimmings of the old school Bianchi Italian style. If Steve Jobs taught us anything its that true attention to deal can be a real killer but it is the only approach to perfection.
